The Chiropractor of Today Has Six or More Years of College

Have you ever wondered just how much education your Chiropractor has? The facts may very well surprise you.
Today, at least six years of highly-specialized college training are required to graduate and earn licensure, and Chiropractic has gained recognition as a comprehensive, scientifically sound force among the healing arts. Only Chiropractic concerns itself with the interrelationship of structure and body functions, and only Chiropractic effectively utilizes natural, drugless methods of treatment, primarily spinal adjustments.
Look at these typical basic educational requirements for medical school graduates as compared for Doctors of Chiropractic.
If you have friends who are uninformed or misinformed about Chiropractic education, why not share this knowledge with them. They, too, may benefit from today's scientific Chiropractic care.

Neck Injury Can Trigger a Multitude of Problems

There are few health problems more common, or of greater complexity, than neck pain, or the frequently used terms "cervical syndrome" or "cervical spine strain." Cervical syndrome actually describes a group of symptoms or findings associated with irritation or pinching of nerves in the neck resulting from subluxation of "slipped" vertebrae.
Since neck injuries do not always give rise to immediate symptoms, many people do not realize that the cause of their physical discomfort can be traced to a previous, even mild, injury. Pain is eventually the most persistent symptom of neck injuries. About 65 percent develop headaches. Nervous irritability is a frequent complication, and pain in the chest occurs in about 25 percent of cases. Stiffness of the neck or shoulders, degeneration of the spinal disc and arthritis may eventually result. Blurred vision; loss of balance, twitching of the eyelid; numbness and tingling of the arms and fingers; shortness of breath; palpitations of the heart; nausea; vomiting; and muscle twitching are common complaints resulting from neck injuries which may have occurred recently, or in years past.
Clinical research proves chiropractic service to be the most effective health care available for most neck injuries and associated symptoms. A doctor of Chiropractic, through training and experience is best qualified to correct the cause of neck disorders.

Why Do I Get Headaches?

Most headaches are not caused by problems in the head or skull, but originate in the muscles, ligaments, joints or nerves of the middle and upper neck.
A common cause is bad posture and changes in the neck curve, which can come from accidents or poor working conditions. Studies show that most headache sufferers have unhealthy neck curves. For example, in one study of 47 people with migraine and tension-type headaches, 77% of all subjects and 89% of the females exhibited a marked reduction, absence or reversal of the normal neck curve.
Instead of covering up the symptoms like prescription drugs would, chiropractic treatment addresses the cause of the problem by restoring proper neck alignment. It is the only method that can change an unhealthy neck curve into a normal one.

Recurring Headaches

15,000 Americans suffer from recurring headaches. $300 million is spent each year for headache remedies. Remedies that give temporary relief only. Headaches are only a symptom, a way of telling you that something is wrong. Unless the cause is corrected, headaches can lead to dizziness, high blood pressure, fainting spells, allergy, nervousness, and insomnia, which then leads to chronic tiredness and finally a nervous breakdown.
The neck and particularly the upper portion of the spine must be considered suspect number one in recurrent headaches. Pick up the phone now and make an appointment with Spring Mountain Chiropractic.

Low Back Pain, Leg Pain or Sciatica

Continued low back pain ... 8 out of 10 people will at some time be struck down by low back pain. 400,000 industrial workers are disabled annually by low back pain. The structural abnormality or mechanical defects of the low back usually occur slowly and without warning over a period of weeks or months. There is a slow, steady deterioration. The first symptoms are mild back pain and loss of range of motion in the back, progressing into leg pain and numbness. Finally, there is a tremendous pain accompanied by the wasting of muscle and eventually paralysis. Your best defense against disabling spinal disorders is to make an appointment now with Spring Mountain Chiropractic for a spinal examination

What is Sciatica?

Sciatica is the inflammation of the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is the longest and largest nerve in the body. It starts in the lower spine, then travels down the leg. There, it divides into many small nerves that reach the muscles and joints of all parts of the leg and foot.
Sciatica can have a variety of causes, such as accidents or even childbirth, and can be very painful. The usual medical approach treats the symptoms with painkillers and muscle relaxants, but is most often ineffective.
Chiropractic treatment corrects poor spinal alignment with spinal adjustments to relieve irritation to the nerves, joints and discs. It has proven very successful in treating sciatica, particularly when used first.

Shoulder & Arm Pain - A Multitude of Problems

Arm and shoulder pain often start with no more than a stiff neck. Generally located at the base of the skull, stiffness becomes pain. Then this pain spreads itself in the shoulder and finally into the arm.
The shoulder might be affected for some time before the arm gets involved. But gradually the arm falls victim, with muscle atrophy and paralysis the end result. This all started with a stiff neck but slow steady deterioration will take its toll. Don't take a chance . . . call now for an appointment at Spring Mountain Chiropractic.

Curvature of the Spine Responds to Chiropractic

We all have an equal number of ligaments and muscles attached to each side of our spine but sometimes there is an unequal pull causing the person to be unable to sit, stand or walk normally.
Unless corrected, a chronic condition could arise. A postural imbalance, a tilted or protruding hip, a drooped shoulder, a shortened leg, or a slightly twisted neck could be the result.
Chiropractic brings gentle adjustments to the misalignment which restores the vertebrae to their normal position, thus allowing nature to begin its wondrous healing process.
Watch your children because young bones are more flexible than those of any adult, so at the first suggestion of a spinal curvature problem, arrange immediately for an appointment with the Spring Mountain Chiropractic Center.
Remember . . . as the twig is bent, so grows the tree.

What are the Principles of Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a natural, drug-free approach to health and wellness that works with your body’s innate ability to heal itself. This holistic approach to health is based on three principles:
The first principle, and most important, is that the body is a self-healing organism. This means that our bodies are designed to heal themselves. When you are sick or injured, your body
initiates its healing abilities to normalize the problem and return you to optimum health.
The second principle is that the nervous system is the master system of the body. It controls every system, organ, tissue and cell. This includes your immune system, which directly impacts health.
The third principle is that the structure of your spine has a direct and critical impact on the functioning of your nervous system. The spinal cord is the lifeline from the brain to the rest of the systems of the body, and its messages travel through the spinal column. Injury to your spine from trauma, stress, or poor posture can cause nerve interference. Nerve interference can adversely affect the body’s systems, organs and tissues. This may or may not manifest symptoms such as pain, fatigue or altered performance.
Chiropractic is concerned with correcting the structure of the spine to maintain optimal performance of the nervous system and thus, better health for the patient. This is accomplished by gently adjusting the position of the spine into an optimum state.

What is a Slipped Disc?

A spinal disc cannot slip out of position. The disc is connected to the vertebrae above and below by thousands of connective tissue fibers called Sharpy’s fibers. When someone says they have a “slipped disc”, they are probably referring to a disc bulge or a tear in the disc wall.

What Can Chiropractic Do for Children?

Chiropractic can be an effective alternative to medication for children with hyperactivity disorders.

“Children responded well to chiropractic care and the result of the treatment even exceeded that from medication.”

International Review of Chiropractic

“Chiropractic manipulation has the potential to become an important non-drug intervention for children with hyperactivity”

Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics

Young children are often prone to repeated ear infections. Chiropractic treatment can often prevent their recurrence, leaving your child in better health and free from antibiotics!

“Forty-six children aged 5 years and under were treated with chiropractic manipulations. 93% of the episodes improved, 75% in 10 days or fewer and 43% with only one or 2 treatments.”

Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics
